At last it looks like Spring has finally sprung so it feels like a good time to publish our second newsletter. The following items are updates to information in the first edition, and examples of how access to the Protective Behaviours Process is progressing via the Protective Behaviours Training Partnership and its website.
Protective Behaviours in the UK & Beyond!
As mentioned in our last newsletter, we believe that 2012 provided some real encouragement to those interested in the promotion of Protective Behaviours. This belief has been reinforced by the securing of further PB Foundation courses for LGSS (Local Government Shared Services representing Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Huntingdon). We are also keen to link up with PB trainers who work internationally, and have made a start with this in terms of liaising with Lucy Holbrook who is currently working in Tanzania, and Holly-ann Martin who works across Australia and the US. Both Lucy's and Holly-ann's training profiles can be found by visiting PBPeople.org.uk.
Current Training Opportunities
As well as the training being delivered via LGSS, in June 2013 Simon and Sally Ann will be facilitating a 4-day PB Specialist Practitioner course at The Holiday Inn in Corby. Some places are still available on this course - please see the Events section for more details. Further open-access PB Foundation courses are planned and details of these will be added to the Events listing as dates and venues are confirmed. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to request training for a specific group at a specific location.
On a sunny Saturday morning in April, Ann Seal, Melanie Pearson, Simon Sneath and Sally Ann Hart (our independent PB Trainer Partners) met to carry out their PBTP commitments as detailed on the Home page of the website and discuss further ways to develop access to PBs training. Such business meetings will be a key annual event and are additional to meetings that provide professional development.
Recently we were absolutely thrilled to receive an endorsement from Di Margetts, which can now be viewed on the Testimonials page. Di was responsible for bringing Protective Behaviours to the UK from Australia back in the 90's. Thankfully for us Di decided to do this from a base in Northamptonshire which is where all our paths crossed. It has been so reassuring to be able to continue to network with Di even though she has returned to Australia and her advice and input to the PBTP and PBPeople websites have been invaluable - Thanks Di :)
Protective Behaviours Online
Since our last newsletter we have been busy extending the functionality of the protectivebehaviorstraining.co.uk website. In particular there are now resource areas available which are accessible by PBTP training delegates. On successful course completion, trainees receive log-in details to enable access to level-specific resource databases – these contain materials designed to support people putting PBs into practice, and will be added to as more become available.
Once again we look forward to staying in touch and supporting your work with PBs throughout 2013.
